There were no assessments today, excellent job to those students that spent time studying Weather vocabulary this week.

Assessments Next Week on Friday:

  • Weather vocabulary :33 terms for vocabulary assesssment Today we played vocabulary hot seat  to learn how to study. Quizlet is the best source for this.
  • Math Unit Test (Multiplication & Division Standard Algorithm/ no remainders) . The kids have been practicing by completing a multiplication problem and checking it with division. For example 435 * 13 = 5,525. Then 5,525 divided by 13. I am sending home a 3 digit by 2 digit multiplication sheet for extra practice. They can check the answer with division, standard algorithm.

First Day News: On our first day we introduced ourselves and worked on ways to improve our school and classroom community. We color coordinated our notebooks, organized supplies, and reviewed our processes for various times of the day. Parents, please note that homework will be posted on the blog at the beginning of the week. Homework is not graded and is for independent practice. Every Friday students should anticipate having assessments. Every other Friday is typically a formal assessment of Reading, Math, and Science. The other Fridays will consist of quizzes.

Reading: For Reading your child will get a daily 5 packet on Mondays, sometimes they may get one for two weeks. This packet will have the learning objective at the top in the form of an "I Can" statement. This is what quizzes and assessments will be on. The packet will also provide opportunities to study for spelling, vocabulary, fluency, writing and more. Weeks will alternate between a spelling assessment or a vocabulary assessment. First spelling test is August 12. It is my goal to differentiate instruction. Accelerated programming allows your child to ask me for a level 4 project when the Daily 5 packet is completed.

Science: Weather words are on Quizlet: https://quizlet.com/90781822/weather-5th-grade-flash-cards/

Math Workshop- Cover tomorrow.

Homework for this week: ( always posted on Monday's & due at the end of the week)

  • All required forms completed and turned in by Friday.
  • Show your parents your Daily 5 contract and feel free to work on it at home this week (optional). This is a way to introduce your parents to how we complete our reading task each day.
