We had a great day in 5th grade. We are finishing up our hallway display "If I Were President...", in honor of President's Day coming up. The responses were so heartwarming and considerate- parents are encouraged to stop in and check it out.

Today I read aloud "Friends & Cliques". Here is the article-http://kidshealth.org/en/teens/cliques.html#. If you need to talk to someone about positive friendships, or feeling left out, discuss this with a parent or a teacher as we have had instances of students feeling left out or excluded from groups. Ideally, I want us to be cohesive when working together, especially projects. Although it is okay to have preferences, our first rule in class is -"include everyone".

We also had our first group meet with Ms. Cooper for "Middle School Lunch Buddies" series.

It was also great to see a mom at Smart Lunch- Mrs. Price & two moms with the Artist: Mrs. McGowan & Mrs. Brabson. Thank you so much!!

Greetings future Pine Hollow Pilots!

As you begin preparing for your child's move to Pine Hollow Middle School there are many classes and new opportunities that will be made available to your student. One of the programs that many our best and brightest students participate in is the band program. While enrollment in the band program is certainly open to all students, I feel that the majority of the students we attract are conscientious and hard-working. There is no talent required for band, only a desire to learn and excel! Please look at the attached information and consider enrolling your child in our program. Remember that this is the only year "beginners" may enroll in the band program. After 6th grade, only students who have taken the class before can be in band.

I have visited your student's school to demonstrate the available instrument selections. There will be two Instrument Sign-up Meetings where students official instrument placement will be finalized. In order to have the best chance for your first instrument choice, please submit the Beginning Band Registration Form (link below) and attend one of the meetings.

Instrument Sign-up Meetings:
April 25th @6pm (ALL TRACKS) ~ Pine Hollow Cafeteria
May 23 @6pm (Make-Up) ~ Pine Hollow Cafeteria

The Pine Hollow Beginning Band Registration Form can be found here. Best to complete this form sooner than later.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our band director Mr. Hoke - dhoke@wcpss.net

Hello parents,

Here are the important points for the upcoming week.

*Tomorrow (Friday) from 10:30-11:15 the 5th grade will be going to an assembly to watch the Moscow Nights Music Assembly.  We are looking forward to a fun show.

*Tomorrow (Friday) is also an early release day.  Dismissal is at 1:15.

*In addition, tomorrow (Friday) is our annual Valentine's Day Dance which is always a very well attended school function.  I've been asked to pass along the following information to you.

***
Hello PUE families! We hope to see you this Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 for our annual Valentines Dance. Come a few minutes early to check out the photo booth, our newest addition to the Valentines festivities! Just a few more days to dust off your dancing shoes and practice those dance moves!

For additional information, please contact Rick Childs or Meg Capel.
***

*On Monday (2.13.17) we will begin our artist in residence week in which the 5th graders will be making a legacy project to hang up in the halls of PUE.  We will be working with the artist in residence Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

*Tuesday (2.14.17) we will have the Pine Hollow band director visiting PUE to talk to our 5th graders about middle school band.

I believe that covers all of the need-to-knows for the upcoming week.

repost from Mr. Schoenebeck's Newsletter:

Hello parents,

Happy Groundhog's Day!  Here are the important points of interest for this week.

*We are still in need of a few materials for our artist in residence starting Monday, February 13th and going through Friday, February 17th.  Our 5th graders will be working on a legacy project that will be hung up in the school for years to come.  Please follow the link below if you are willing to send in any of those items.  Please send those items in at your earliest convenience so we can sort and prepare them to be ready for that Monday (13th).

*Congratulations to 25 year PUE veteran Mrs. Rosina Davidson on her retirement.  Her last day at PUE was Tuesday, January 31st.  We are all sad to see her go, but wish her well on the next step in her life.

*Next Friday (2.10.17) is an early release.  Dismissal is at 1:15.

*Next Friday (2.10.17) is also our school Valentine's Day dance.  More information on that is in the weekly emails from Mr. Biles.

That covers the important points for this week.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Thank you.
