Hello parents,

Here are the important points of note for this week.

*Progress reports are being sent home today. (Tuesday, 5.23.17)

*There will be no school this upcoming Monday (5.29.17) in observance of Memorial Day.

*Next Tuesday (5.30.17) is our last Family Fun Night of the year.  4-9pm at Goodberry's and 5-10pm at Milton's Pizza.  Please remember to mention Pleasant Union when you go.

*Next Friday (6.2.17) is Field Day from 12:30-2:30 is the weather is cooperative.  The make-up rain date is Tuesday, 6.6.17.

*I sent an email earlier today about 5th grade graduation.  Please look through that information.  The forms (attached on that email this morning) will be coming home with your child today.

*As we are coming closer to EOG's I do have a few notes about those tests.

1. I have attached a pdf with all the 5th grade standards so you can better help your students prepare for the test.  Keep in mind that we are expecting fractions to be roughly half of the test, so make sure they know how to work with fractions.

2. If you do not already have EOG dates on your calendar, they are Monday, June 19th through Wednesday, June 21st.  We will have Reading on Monday, math on Tuesday, and science on Wednesday.

3. Studies have shown that students perform better when they feel confident in their abilities.  In order to help with this, I'm asking that parents write a motivating/encouraging letter to their child for them to open and read on test days.  If you would like to participate, please indicate your child's name and which day (math, reading, science) on the envelope and I will put those letters on their desks for them to see on test days.  Feel free to send them in at any time before the 19th.

*As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you.

repost from Mr. Schoenebeck's newsletter

Hello parents,

Here are the important points for this week.

*Case 21 tests are today (Tuesday), Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.  The tests are reading, math, and science respectively.

*We have been registering students for electives in middle school.  As students get signed up for their electives, you will be getting a note with "Teacher Recommendations."  This is not actually a recommendation from myself, but rather a list of courses I was given in which to enroll your child based on testing data such as EOG's and Case 21's.  If you are interested in a different recommendation, please note that on the recommendation form and inform us before track out.  If you are satisfied with the recommendations, please sign and return the form.  If you have any questions, you may email Ms. Cooper at ccooper@wcpss.net.  Feel free to cc me on that email as well.

*Thursday night is our school talent show.

*Friday is early release.  Dismissal is at 1:15.  Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home on Friday.

*The first day of 4th quarter is Thursday, April 20th.  Enjoy your track out.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

March 20, 2017

Middle School Course Recommendations are going home today. Please note that although it reads "Teacher Recommendations". It is not actually a teacher recommendation, 5th grade teachers were given a list of courses to enroll your child in based on testing data. For example, EOG's and Case 21. If you are interested in a higher recommendation, please note that on the recommendation form before we track out. If not, just sign and return. If you have any questions please email ccooper@wcpss.net. Feel free to cc' me.

Thanks!

*Friday is early release & Track out

Homework for this week:

  • Study Human Body Vocabulary (previous Blog Post)
  • Study Heredity & Body Systems on Brain Pop
